King Fire Area Reopened to Public — EL DORADO COUNTY - An area of the El Dorado National Forest closed in September due to the King Fire finally re-opened Saturday. But the fire has still left behind many hazards for hikers, fishers and campers. The biggest concern are falling trees, since the fire killed or has weakened many pines and other species as well as their branches.

Fire Caused by Smoker Damages Two Homes — MODESTO - A careless smoker almost cost a few their Modesto homes. The Modesto fire department said a 30-acre grass fire started when a pickup truck driver threw his cigarette out his window. "The initial (reporting party) of the fire witnessed a gentleman in a pickup truck toss his cigarette from a window," said Tim Tietjen, a Battalion Chief with the Modesto Fire Department.

Downtown Sacramento Sprinkler System Runs for Nearly 24 Hours over Weekend — SACRAMENTO- A downtown Sacramento sprinkler system was running non-stop over the weekend, starting around midnight Saturday, according to neighbors. About 41 sprinkler heads were watering a side lawn on the corner of Q and 12th streets. The building, located at 1102 Q Street, which appears responsible for the sprinkler system houses the California Community Colleges Chancellor's office, as well as other state offices.
