Officer's last conversation reverberates — A year ago at a McDonald's in City Heights, Daveon Scott, then 13, held the last conversation anyone would have with San Diego police officer Jeremy Henwood. That was three minutes before the 36-year-old was fatally shot. Daveon told him he hoped to play basketball in the NBA one day.

See Conan O'Brien take the Fury Road to San Diego Comic-Con — Of course late-night TV host Conan O'Brien took the scenic route to San Diego for four nights of live shows at Spreckels Theatre and some additional shenanigans during Comic-Con. His opening bit during his first show Wednesday night proved just how scenic that road is. Which road? The Fury Road, naturally.

White House marriage equality rainbow lights illuminate debate — "Do you think the White House went too far with the rainbow lights?" The question was posted to our Facebook page this morning, along with some letters to the editor about Friday's historic U.S. Supreme Court marriage-equality ruling and other issues. Within hours, the response was immense.

This map shows where same-sex marriage is legal in the U.S. — This map shows where same-sex marriage is now legal in the U.S. after the Supreme Court issued a 5-4 ruling that the 14th Amendment requires a state to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and to recognize a marriage between them when a marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out of state.

Berkely balcony victim will honor dead with 'most fulfilling life possible' — Clodagh Cogley needed 169 words to express the beauty and heartbreak of life. Cogley is one of seven young Irish students injured in this month's horrific balcony collapse in Berkeley that claimed six lives during the 21st birthday party for a friend. Cogley's outlook on life is worth relaying in its entirety.

Man holding baby in one arm barehands foul ball with other — It cost his team an out and ended its inning, but that was the least unusual part of Cubs fan Keith Hartley catching a foul ball and grabbing it out of Adrian Gonzalez's mitt in Tuesday's Dodgers-Cubs game. Why? Because he caught the ball with his bare hand while holding his 7-month-old son, Isaac, in his other.

Am I the last person to see this wild play involving Adrian Gonzalez and a dad holding a baby?

Monday's Aurora Borealis extended northern lights south — This week's northern lights looked amazing worldwide and from space, where astronaut Scott Kelly said he'd never seen such a view. Below are 10 photos that give you a glimpse into the beautiful collision of solar particles and magnetic fields in Earth's upper atmosphere that form what NASA calls " dancing lights."
