San Diego Chargers, San Onofre shutdown letter subjects — The unjustified shutdown of San Onofre was engineered by Gov. Jerry Brown. He, the PUC chairman and the CEO of Edison International are the guilty ones. The heat exchangers produced by Mitsubishi were going to be replaced at no cost. So what was the real reason this multibillion-dollar investment was scrapped?

Would you root for the San Diego Raiders? — If the Chargers move to Los Angeles, should San Diego look to land another NFL team? And more specifically, would you root for the San Diego Raiders? The question was too provocative not to ask this week before the NFL meetings in Houston changed the course, potentially, of four major American cities.

Would you want a gun store near your child's school? — There's something you should know about this column before you read any further: No one wanted to talk to me about it. Not the principal of Murray Manor Elementary School in La Mesa. Not the owners of a gun shop so close that a student could hit it from campus with a baseball.

Reposting on the terrible three-year anniversary of #SandyHook: Would you want a gun store near your child's school?

Rate your level of Star Wars fandom: Force awakens or sleeps? — A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away is suddenly next week in thousands of movie theaters. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" debuts Thursday, Dec. 17. Many people already have their tickets. Some started waiting in line 12 days before the premiere. Others intend to stay far, far away.

What's in the Newtown shooter's name? — I stood on a stage Monday morning with my hands on my six-year-old daughter's shoulders and her hands on a reading award she had just received. I thought of the parents who would never read another book to those 20 children in Connecticut. I took my hands off her.

In the wake of the most deadly U.S. shooting since Sandy Hook, I repost my column on it and guns and mass shooters:

Acknowledge pilots — IT has come to my attention that in the article about the dramatic sea rescue ("Dramatic sea rescue", November 27) you did not mention the brave, skilled pilots of the "C Charlie flight" that operated the two BK117 helicopters. These men and women should be acknowledged for their incredible work over our beautiful city.

Red panda's perp walk gives San Diego stork searchers hope — When he was reported missing, Rusty the Red Panda hadn't been seen since 6 p.m. Sunday at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. He was recovered after being found running through yards of a nearby neighborhood. But a painted stork missing from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for a week is still at large.

The East Coast and the West Coast summed up in 2 stories about missing red pandas: EC: WC:

Geezer Bandit's in the news again today so I checked: 6 years since I first wrote about the man and his motivations.

New York loses 'pizza war,' gives Bronx cheer to San Diego — Trip Advisor Wednesday labeled San Diego tops on a list of 10 cities that have the country's best pizza. So much for all that talk about New York and Chicago pizza. So much for the East Coast bias and media elite. Just because they lost the crown doesn't mean New Yorkers lost their voices though.

Today's San Diego pizza post reminds me of that time our pizza was voted better than New York's and they got pissed:
