Suspect charged in death of 25-year-old man knew victim — A man was arrested and charged Friday in connection with the death of a married father who went missing in southwest Calgary nine months ago. Kevin Douglas Dalton, 35, was taken into custody without incident at a southeast Calgary home. He was charged with manslaughter and committing an indignity to a human body.

One dead in second Calgary workplace fatality this week — On Thursday, paramedics were called to Swish Maintenance Limited in the 600 block of 28th Street NE at around 1:13 p.m, where Norcal Construction was involved in dismantling a brick building at the site when the wall collapsed on a worker.

City councillor calling for tighter controls on liquor store separation distances — Coun. Andre Chabot is calling for bylaw amendments that would make it more difficult to relax the rules around how far liquor stores need to be built from schools and from each other. Shot fired during northeast Calgary jewelry store robbery — A shot was fired during a jewelry store robbery in the city's northeast Friday evening. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Police continue to search for the two suspects involved. Det. Steve Adair said officers were called to Imperial Jewellers in the 3500 block of 32nd Avenue N.E. at around 6:45 p.m.

Cold weather records broken in southern Alberta — It may be cold in Calgary, but our temperatures didn't come close to the bone-chilling record-breaking lows in other Alberta communities on Friday. According to Environment Canada, several records were broken or nearly broken as temperatures plummeted "under the influence of a cold Arctic air mass."

Charges laid in connection with rash of break-ins in south Calgary — Charges have been laid in connection with a rash of break-and-enters in south Calgary, including some cases in which intruders gained entry to homes using stolen garage door openers. City police say between Oct. 19 and Oct. 26, they investigated 16 break-ins in the communities of Evergreen, Millrise, Auburn Bay, Silverado and Chaparral.

Alberta man dies after falling off cliff in B.C. — An Alberta man who was working as a hunting guide in British Columbia died this week after falling off a cliff. RCMP say they were notified around 8:50 p.m. Monday that an emergency beacon had been activated up the Kemano River near Kitimat, in the northwest coast of B.C.

Woman found with serious head injuries in NE Calgary had been sexually assaulted — A woman who was discovered with serious head injuries Saturday night in a clearing northeast of downtown Calgary had been sexually assaulted, say police. No suspects are in custody and investigators are appealing to the public for information on the violent attack. The 30-year-old woman was found by a passerby at around 9:30 p.m.
