Dave Feldman, the longtime sports director and anchor at WTTG Fox 5, is leaving the station to return to his home market in Northern California. His last day will be next Wednesday. Multiple sources told me that Feldman’s next stop will be at CSN Bay Area, where he’ll be reunited in some manner with 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, his one-time basketball teammate at Palo Alto High. Feldman came to WTTG as an anchor in 2000, after working in several capacities at ESPN. He’s been the station’s sports director since 2001, making him one of the longest serving TV sports personalities in the market. A WTTG spokesman told TVSpy that “an extensive search is underway for Feldman’s replacement,” according to that site, which broke the Feldman ... Continue reading →

(Photos courtesy Bob McDonald.) If you’re a D.C. sports fan and you know Bob McDonald, it’s likely in his role as a regular national anthem singer before Caps games at Verizon Center. “A life-long Washington Capitals fan, Bob has sung the national anthem at Caps hockey games for over 16 years,” his Web site reads. “Fans love his rich baritone voice, his signature ‘fist pump,’ and his cutaway-tuxedo-to-Caps-jersey antics during the playoffs.” Well, meet him now in another D.C. sports role: as awesome Redskins-representing provocateur. McDonald — an announcer and non-commissioned officer in charge of The United States Army Chorus — wrote on Twitter Thursday morning that he was “about to have my VIP tour of Cowboys stadium...in my RGIII jersey.” Then he sent along ... The Nationals are on ESPN2 on Wednesday night. They’re on ESPN Sunday night. Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg ensure that they’re a regular topic on ESPN radio. And being in first place ensures that they’re discussed at length during the highlight shows. All of which led to the above moment from Baseball Tonight this week, which several readers referred me to. “We’re all Nats all the time,” John Kruk noted in the segment, seen above, thanks to ESPN’s PR folks. “We are the Nat Network right now,” Karl Ravech agreed. “We should be. They’re very good,” Mark Mulder said. “N stands for Nats,” Ravech concluded. These are things that have never before been said about the Nationals. Continue reading →
Via @GioGonzalez47 Earlier in the season, Dan made a list of the reasons we love Gio Gonzalez. Let’s just keep a running tab and add this fun item. Gonzalez tweeted this pic today, a pic that seems to imply that he had custom headphones made for his fellow members of the Nats starting rotation. What a swell guy. I can only assume that custom headphones for media members who constantly point out how awesome Gio Gonzalez is are in the mail. Continue reading →
+1vote Byrd Stadium Gets Turf, University of Maryland Is Breaking Ground But Not TraditionPosted on May 23, 2012 by Lacrosse PlaygroundCategories: Field equipmentByrd Stadium is home of the Maryland Terrapins football and lacrosse teams, which compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It’s currently under construction to make way for a new turf field. Sources have told LPG that the field will rival the Blue “Smurf Turf” at Boise State University. Rumored colors include Grey and White. However, other terp fans have been circulating this picture around:Byrd Stadium was first erected in 1950 in order to replace an older, much smaller stadium of the same name. In 1991, the five-story Tyser Tower, featuring luxury suites and an expanded press area, was completed on the south side ... Continue reading →
Turns out this is a significant year for D.C. sports anniversaries; not only are we celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Redskins being founded in Boston, but we’re also celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Mystics. Never can make too much of an 80th anniversary, or a 15th anniversary. Anyhow, the Mystics produced a fairly incredible 15th anniversary video, featuring guest appearances from John Legend, Common, Kevin Hart, Michelle Kwan, Bill Simmons, Tony Kornheiser, Michael Wilbon, Sara Walsh, Wes Unseld, Mike Green, Jeff Halpern, Biz Markie, Brandon Bankes, Dwayne DeRosario, John Wall and others. I have to assume that’s the most famous people ever to appear in a 15th anniversary WNBA video. In case you aren’t allowed to watch videos at work, or you want ... Continue reading →
