Irish computers hit by spy bug Regin

rte.ie — Sunday 23 November 2014 21.42 Ireland has been named as one of the countries most affected by a computer spying bug malware called Regin. The Mountain View, California-based maker of Norton anti virus products said its research showed that a "nation state" was likely the developer of the malware called Regin, or Backdoor.

rte.ie — Saturday 22 November 2014 17.08An investigation is being carried out in Castleisland Co Kerry a green area in a local housing estate collapsed. A hole, five metres deep in places and 13 metres long, appeared in the Cahereen Heights estate this morning.

Fenton banned for three years

rte.ie — Philip Fenton has been disqualified from holding a trainer's licence for three years following an Irish Turf Club hearing today. Fenton was called before officials after being found guilty of possessing anabolic steroids and other banned substances at a district court hearing last month.

Vandals cut down iconic cross on Carrauntoohil

rte.ie — Saturday 22 November 2014 14.29 An iconic five metre steel cross at the top of Ireland's highest mountain, Carrauntoohil has been cut down. The cross has been at the summit of the mountain for almost 30 years. No motive is known for the attack.

It is 50 years since the condition was discovered simultaneously by an Irish doctor, Conor Ward, and an Italian doctor Caesare Romano in 1964.

Investigation after two men killed on Donegal farm

rte.ie — Saturday 22 November 2014 08.59 A Health and Safety Authority investigation is due to get under way in Co Donegal today following a farm accident yesterday. Neighbours Kevin Wood and Seamus Hegarty were killed after a tractor tyre they were changing exploded. The incident happened in the Killygordon area between Ballybofey and Strabane at around 6pm.

Stena Line cancels scheduled Christmas sailings

rte.ie — Friday 21 November 2014 18.33 Ferry company Stena Line has cancelled its scheduled services between Dun Laoghaire and Holyhead for the Christmas period. Sailing were due to run from 20 December until early January 2015. The company said in a statement, "In recent years Stena Line has deployed the HSS for a few days over the Christmas holiday period on its Holyhead-Dun Laoghaire service.

HSE report shows €361m deficit to end of September

rte.ie — Friday 21 November 2014 15.19 The latest performance report from the Health Service Executive shows a deficit to the end of September of €361 million, with the projected year-end overrun still predicted to be €510m. The September report reflects the continuing trend seen in HSE reports in recent months, with further increases in waiting lists for outpatients and planned procedures.
