Men only, no females. The other requirement is that you must have some sort of background that Chinese people typically value. My contact is slightly obsessed with Jewish people and thinks they are the smartest, so he naturally prefers this person to be Jewish. Continue reading →

Mark Zuckerberg announced his wedding exactly like you’d expect: with a Facebook (FB) status update. The post-nuptial snapshot of him and his longtime girlfriend, Priscilla Chan, instantly went viral, with over 1 million likes and hundreds of comments. Details of the wedding trickled out over the next few hours, including the identity of the photographer behind the iconic shot: 31-year-old Brooklyn-based artist Noah Kalina. “We shot immediately after the ceremony,” Kalina explains over email. “I wanted an image that would show something clean, beautiful, and free of contrivance.” Though not a wedding photographer, Kalina is a professional artist, and no stranger to the world of viral sensations. I said, “Not-for-profit organizations like you cannot afford to attack philanthropy because if you attack one foundation you may as well attack them all. You’ll be cutting your own throat.” Hal assured me that while all this might be true someone had to take up the issue, and Orion was willing to do so. And I was the right person to write the essay precisely because I was not an insider but simply an honest intelligence. So, with many misgivings I said I’d try. I ... Continue reading →
hyperallergic: A new mural by street artist Gaia is titled “The Dusk of H Street” (2012) and was commissioned by Smith Commons. Located on 1245 H Street, NE, Washington DC, the interior of the chest is, according to the artist, an Albert Bierstadt landscape painting of Yosemite referencing American manifest destiny and western expansion. While it’s not clear which painting it exactly is, it does resemble his “Valley of Yosemite” (1864). Gaia suggests that, “The virgin terrain is contrasted with an old vacant building on H street which is a historically divested neighborhood is currently undergoing a massive transition.” Do I have to be the one to say it? I mean, even down to the placement of the wedding ring… Continue reading →
