For those that missed Sunday night’s episode of The Simpsons, there was a brilliant “couch gag” in the opening credits: the Simpson family animated by The Ren & Stimpy Show mastermind John Kricfalusi. The bit (above) was bizarre, awkward, weird (yes that’s Homer pouring a beer directly into his cranium), and wonderful. Basically, it’s all the [...] Texas governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry is floating the idea of invading Mexico. By Cory Doctorow at 6:00 pm Wednesday, May 23 DeviantArt's Ashleyisthebomb shows off a Starburst chewies castle whose individual bricks were melted together with a glue-less hot glue gun: "because there was no glue or anything, it was completely edible. My family and I had fun eating it until we got sick of starbursts, then i threw it out. It took FOREVER and ended up weighing about 60 pounds." Adafruit has an awesome LEGO kit design for Ladyada's Workshop up on LEGO CUUSOO. CUUSOO is a site where people can submit designs for new LEGO sets or vote to support designs that have already been submitted. With enough support, LEGO may eventually turn these into actual production kits. With your support, maybe we can all have the chance to play with a LEGO version of MOSFET, a pick-and-place and a soldering iron. Continue reading →
THE WELLCOME COLLECTION London, United Kingdom I'd recommend the Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road London. The best collection of medical art and paraphernalia in the world, and usually very fascinating and specific temporary exhibitions too. Always worth a visit and often overlooked. Stephen Fry [ @Stephenfry ] Actor, writer and Poet MIDTOWN COMICS New York City, USA Without a doubt, you have to stop by Midtown Comics. They have three shops in Manhattan, each with its own vibe befitting its location, and they’re all packed to the gills with essentials for geeks of every ilk. I even brave the horrors of Times Square to get my comics from them. Ryan Penagos [ @Agent_M ] Executive Editorial Director, Marvel Digital Media Group & Marvel.com THE MUSÉE ... Continue reading →
This Żubr A80 truck by Karwik will be going in my ‘clever techniques’ folder. Especially the use of the new arch for the front wheel and that beautiful texture in the wagon. GeekDad posts a rave review of Titans of Industry, a Kickstarter project by Gozer Games, on Wired.com! GeekDad rates Titans of Industry as “Titanic”, in other words, “quite a good game”. From GeekDad’s review: “Overview: Titans of Industry is another heavy-duty worker placement game set in the 1920s, with players competing to build factories, produce resources, and then sell them at businesses for profit and sweet, sweet victory points. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter; I received a prototype to try out. Who Will Like It? Gamers who enjoy worker placement games, like Belfort or Lords of Waterdeep. While the gameplay is pretty straightforward, keeping track of all your people and resources and buildings can be daunting, so this game is not for ... Continue reading →
Found on Totalgeekdom.com: this awesome wall and ceiling build area, which consists of Lego plates stuck onto convenient surfaces. I’m an avid Lego geek; I love sitting down for a build session whenever I can fit one in. This often means pulling out the bins of Lego bricks and clearing a spot on the floor or a table and having at it. With bricks flying and hands madly building it’s only a short time before robots, dinosaurs and all kinds of fun Lego creations are scurrying about. The downside to this fun is at the end of a build session you have to clean up and put away the bin of Lego bricks and even….gasp… disassemble your new creations! The horror. The solution to this ...
