PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is praising the staff of his troubled Rhode Island video gaming company for having "breathtaking resilience."The remarks were posted on Tuesday to Schilling's Facebook page. Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) said Monday that 38 Studios laid off some of its employees.The company was lured to Rhode Island from Massachusetts in 2010 after receiving a $75 million loan guarantee from the state.38 Studios was more than two weeks late on a $1.1 million payment to the Economic Development Corp., and state officials said last week they had been told by the company that it wouldn't be able to make its payroll.The Facebook post says the 38 Studios staff is coming together like a family and praises employees for helping each ... Opera News, 76 years old and one of the leading classical music magazines in the country, said on Monday that it would stop reviewing the Metropolitan Opera, a policy prompted by the Met’s dissatisfaction over negative critiques. The decision by the magazine, which is published by a Met fund-raising affiliate, the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and which freely reviews companies around the world, troubles some opera experts. It is also the latest sign of sensitivity from the Met under its general manager, Peter Gelb, in the face of criticism over its productions.
