While in court Tuesday, Naqibullah did not offer a reason why he opened fire on my @AP colleagues Anja Niedringhaus and Kathy Gannon.
During the hearing Tuesday, Naqibullah told judges he was "not a normal person." Judges found him competent as he knew his name, date, age.
It was the first court hearing in the case and, under Afghan law, the verdict and sentence are subject to several stages of review.
The judges also sentenced Naqibullah to four years in prison for shooting and wounding veteran @AP correspondent Kathy Gannon in the attack.
