Administration sets criteria for new school grants By CHRISTINE ARMARIO, AP Education Writer – 10 minutes ago Following a wave of state education reforms spurred by its Race to the Top competition, the Education Department said Tuesday that individual school districts will be able to compete for $400 million in grants to bring the initiative to the classroom level.School districts with at least 2,500 students and 40 percent or more qualifying for free or reduced price lunch — a key indicator of poverty — will be eligible to receive up to $25 million to create plans targeting specific groups of students with the aim of closing the achievement gap."We need to take classroom learning beyond a one-size-fits-all model and bring it into the 21st century," ...
