HELENA, Mont. (AP) -- Troy Peissig's surprise at acing an $18,000 hole-in-one contest at a charity tournament has been replaced by bitter disappointment now that he hasn't been paid a dime nearly two years after making the 170-yard shot. Now state authorities are intervening, and issued an arrest warrant last week against the operator of an insurance company they say failed to pay up on a policy purchased by the Missoula tournament. Peissig, a scratch golfer, said it is a case of "how a good situation can go bad quickly." HONOLULU (AP) — Dude, that was the gnarliest wave ever. Guinness World Records says so. The record-keeping agency is acknowledging a 44-year-old Hawaii pro surfer for catching a 78-foot wave off the coast of Portugal, saying the November run beats a 2008 record by more than 1 foot. Big-wave surfer Garrett McNamara of Haleiwa, on Oahu's North Shore, told The Associated Press that the ride of his life was a fluke. He said he originally didn't want to attempt the waves that day after wiping out numerous times on even bigger swells in the same spot, above an undersea canyon known as one of the biggest wave-generators on the planet. "I was really beat-up that morning," he said. "This day, I did not want to ... Continue reading →
I had just arrived in New York in April, 1970 and I was staying with a Newspaper Owner called Dan RATTINER, who invite me to stay at his place in the Hamptons. I had been there a week when a call came through from the 'new' magazine called Scanlan's, ( named after a little-nown Nottingham Pig Farmer) and run by two 'tearaways' from San Francisco called Warren Hinckle III and Sydney Zion who burned through $750,000 of borrowed money in the space of nine months. Their Art Director, JC Suares, tracked me down with Anna's help and asked me if I would like to go to Louisville and work with an ex-Hell's Angel- who had shaved his head! called Hunter S. Thompson. I jumped at ... Continue reading →
