According to WBAL-TV, North County High School freshman Jack Andraka became the winner of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for his invention after drawing inspiration from his uncle, who died from the disease. “That’s what’s really cool about science to me — you can affect other people’s lives,” Andraka said. “You can basically do anything with science.” Andraka created a dipstick sensor that tests blood or urine and detects not only pancreatic cancer, but also lung and ovarian cancer as well. OGDEN -- An Ogden resident and Mount Everest climber spent the night in the hospital, while bad weather claimed the lives of other climbers on the mountain over the weekend. Tom Burton and Will Calton had already completed their descent from the summit when three climbers in a different group died and two went missing. According to media reports, one of the missing climbers, a Chinese woman, was also found dead. Burton's wife, Gaylynn Burton, said her husband was healthy but Calton suffered an injury in an accident. Gaylynn said Calton spent the night in the hospital for observation after he suffered two broken ribs and a concussion while climbing down from Mount Everest. "We expect a full recovery," she said.
