2012 - Sigma Delta Chi - Online Deadline Reporting
Part of the Burlington Free Press staff that was awarded the Sigma Delta Chi Award in Online Deadline Reporting by the Society of Professional Journalists. I was one of the first journalists who responded to the scene of a 2011 Occupy Burlington shooting, where I used an iPhone 4S to shoot photos and video, and also deliver breaking news reports and immediate social media updates on Twitter and Facebook.
2012 - Digital Storytelling and Reporting Award
This is the second national-level award for our breaking news coverage of Occupy Burlington in which many forms of digital storytelling were utilized - stories, photos, videos, live tweets, and Facebook shares were among the most visible components of this package. As was the case with the above SPJ award, newspapers of all circulation sizes were considered for this top honor.
