Mike Yakawich, chairman of the Southside Task Force, has filed to run in Ward 1, where Councilman Jim Ronquillo is stepping down because of term limits.

Big Sky Honor Flight returns to warm welcome

billingsgazette.com — The 84 veterans who took part in the fourth Big Sky Honor Flight came home Monday night to a hero's welcome. The baggage area of Billings Logan International Airport was packed with hundreds of people cheering and waving small American flags as each veteran descended the stairs or escalator.

SD2 picked to get federal school safety evaluation

billingsgazette.com — Billings School District 2 is one of 100 school districts nationwide selected to take part in a school safety assessment performed by the Department of Homeland Security. The school evaluations are part of a federal initiative, "Now Is the Time," launched early this year in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings last December in Connecticut.
@Lynde1934 Dept. of Homeland Security officials will tour the school and evaluate how safe it is in the event of a disaster or shooting.
