For the past couple years, the Graduate Management Admissions Council has been referring to this June’s release of the new-and-improved GMAT as the “Next-Generation GMAT”. But with all due respect to GMAC, “next-generation” is a bit of a misplaced or at least misaligned modifier (albeit one that wouldn’t quite meet the standard of an incorrect Sentence Correction answer!). The only true change to the test is the replacement of one Analytical Writing Assessment with the new Integrated Reasoning section, hardly a groundbreaking enough change to justify calling this new GMAT “GMAT 3.0” – it’s more like GMAT 2.1. Researchers at top business schools have been busy publishing papers on everything from marketing to economics to business schools themselves. What follows are some of the more notable studies. Business Schools, Under the Microscope: While many fields have embraced the use of analytics, business schools have clung stubbornly to their old ways. That’s the conclusion reached by researchers at the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business, who found little evidence that MBA students were being trained in the fine art of data analysis. UNC Launches MD/MBA Dual-Degree Program May 24, 2012The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine and Kenan-Flagler Business School announced a partnership Thursday to launch a unique dual-degree program offering medical students the opportunity to earn doctor of medicine and master’s of business administration degrees in five years. The first students start classes this fall. The UNC dual degree is incorporating experiential learning approaches where students will develop solutions to healthcare problems by working with clinicians and health business experts associated with UNC Health Care.
