Jennifer Egan's last book, "A Visit from the Goon Squad," won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. There is no Pulitzer yet for fiction published on Twitter, but that's where she's taking a couple of her characters from the novel, in a New Yorker experiment that starts today at 5 p.m. PDT. Egan's new story, "Black Box," will be serialized on Twitter over 10 nights. Each night, it will be tweeted from @NYerfiction over the course of an hour. He made it to his 101st birthday, but his life ended when he was walking across the street. The elderly pedestrian was fatally struck Tuesday night by a vehicle in Burbank. The incident took place at around 8:15 p.m. on Olive Avenue between Sparks Street and Beachwood Drive, said Burbank police Sgt. Claudio Losacco, according to City News Service. The driver who struck the man stopped at the scene, and was not arrested or cited. Police in Burbank are working to determine where the pedestrian was when he was hit; it was not immediately known if the man, whose identity is being withheld, was at a corner or mid-block when he was struck. State Fish and Game officers killed a juvenile mountain lion Tuesday that had wandered into the courtyard of a Santa Monica office building, KTLA-TV reported. The officers killed the cat out of concern for public safety, authorities told the TV station. The animal was originally spotted about 6 a.m. on Arizona Avenue in downtown Santa Monica. Officers tried to tranquilize it, but the mountain lion kept trying to jump over a fence, police told KTLA. The animal was believed to be a juvenile female weighing less than 100 pounds.
