Severe thunderstorms could impact the start of Fourth of July celebrations Friday as they roll through the Chicago area, bringing lightning and torrential downpours. A ground stop is in effect at O'Hare and Midway airports due to thunderstorms until at least 3:30 p.m. Winds of 80 miles per hour have been reported in Tinley Park and other southwest suburbs. There are watches and warnings in place through the afternoon.

The Chicago area is facing a dangerous heat wave next week, with humidity pushing temperatures into the triple digits and excessive heat warnings likely. Dangerous heat and humidity will begin to build into the area starting Monday and likely continuing all week. Air temperatures are expected to be in the mid- to upper-90s for five or more days, with humidity making it feel like anywhere from 100 to 110 degrees each day.

Tornado outbreak possible again in Chicago area Wednesday; flash flooding, damaging winds from 2 rounds of storms

Another tornado outbreak is possible in the Chicago area Wednesday with two more rounds of storms on the way. There are still thousands without power in the Chicago area after a tornado outbreak last Thursday saw at least 13 tornado touchdowns in Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana, and we could see much the same tomorrow. Currently areas south of I-80 are under a level 4 out of 5 moderate risk for severe weather Wednesday. Once again there are two rounds of storms expected.
