Alden Jones is Writer-in-Residence at Emerson College, where she teaches nonfiction and fiction writing. Her journalism has appeared in The Cut, New York Magazine, the Boston Globe, the Rumpus, the Best American Travel Writing, BOMB, Go Magazine, and Time Out New York. Her most recent book, The Wanting Was a Wilderness, was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award.

I have fallen to the conveniences of the laptop, but I write in a way that is as unruly as typing on paper used to be.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

An academic dean pitched me on joining the Semester at Sea faculty for a voyage around the world. I went.
