Hmmm. I had no idea I was going to write about cover letters, but it occurred to me that I should as part of some personal experiences I’ve had recently. As such, I’m here to promote the idea that it is beneficial, interesting, and worthwhile for job hunters to write detailed cover letters to make themselves more well-rounded candidates.

Freelance Writers Should Apply for Writing Jobs Even if They Don’t Qualify

I responded recently to a colleague’s strategy to break into new ground in freelance writing. While I agreed with his simple approach to create new writing samples to address specific job descriptions, I found myself explaining my own strategies for looking for writing jobs and freelance clients. Perhaps in 100% of the job opportunities I’ve seen online, the descriptions almost always call for very specific, demonstrable experience in a particular industry.

I'm not sure what it means to be a journalist. I consider myself a diehard creative and strong writer.

I'll accept story pitches from any person who has a clear purpose of what they want to accomplish in writing.
