Reporter at WIBW-AM-FM-TV, Topeka, Kansas

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes

How is social media changing news?

Making it more ubiquitous. Maybe giving it a shorter shelf life.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Mikael Blomkvist

What does it mean to be a journalist?

That the whole world is open to probe and explain.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

Don't know.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

NA

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Google, Facebook, Twitter, Banjo, Adobe Premier, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Audition, A wide assortment of still/video cameras and audio recorders.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter

Who do you wish followed you?

Anyone, everyone.

Why did you become a journalist?

To engage in conversation. To seek and report the truth. I know that's a worn phrase, but it's still true.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was a reporter writing about news and sports.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

A story about WWII vets with injuries from chemical weapons tests who were denied VA treatment/survivor benefits until we did the story.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

It's not a job. It's a life style.
