If golf is a good walk spoiled, as famously suggested, then a march down Southend Pier is a good walk unspoiled. For 1.34 miles there is pretty much nothing on the world's longest pleasure pier to distract you from simply walking, perhaps talking, and taking in the view across the Thames Estuary.
There will be more than 12,000 athletes competing in London - some will win medals, some will break records whilst some will just make up the numbers. All will be wearing their country's colours with pride. But what if their country is not allowed to compete?
