It's that time of year again: tax-filing season. Millions of Americans are probably downloading the latest version of their tax preparation software as we speak or picking it up at their local software store. Approximately 52 million taxpayers filed their 2014 tax returns on their home computers using commercially produced tax preparation software (such as TurboTax, TaxACT or H&R Block).
The applications, more than 600 of them, came from all over the world, and from every corner of journalism. A magazine writer in Nigeria who focused on the exploitation of women. A computer data specialist from Texas. A videographer in Colombia and a documentarian in Myanmar. Undergraduates from Duke, Temple and Iowa State.
