Steve Parish held talks with Iraola and all seemed to be progressing well after the Spaniard announced his decision to leave Bournemouth. However, Richard Hughes – Director of Football at Liverpool and also the man who hired Iraola for Bournemouth – was able to use his relationship with the man born in Usurbil to lure him to Anfield.

Crystal Palace made a bid for Christos Tzolis back in August after Eberechi Eze asked to leave. The Athletic claimed that Club Brugge rejected the undisclosed bid, but talks took place with the Greece international and an improved offer was expected. A move to Selhurst Park ultimately failed to materialise for Tzolis and he remained in Belgium, where he just delivered a quite remarkable 2025/26 campaign for the Belgian giants.
