What was your first job as a journalist?

Though I'd been on my high school and college papers, my first real job was with the Waco Tribune-Herald. Interned in sports, then metro.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, I loved an Underwood manual typewriter. I learned to type, though, in the age of the IBM Selectric. It felt far less satisfying.

How is social media changing news?

It's making reporters more entrepreneurial about self promotion, which can be good. But if it siphons time from in-depth reporting, it's bad.
