AJAM announces bureau positions
Correspondents Libby Casey, Ash-har Quraishi and Heidi Zhou-Castro are among AJAM's latest hires.
Rounding up its first week of broadcasting, Al Jazeera America has also appointed a flurry of national bureau correspondents. First up is Libby Casey, who will be their Washington correspondent based in D.C. "Go get 'em, @libcasey," cheered John Harwood of The New York Times and CNBC. Casey replied to fans, "Thanks so much! & Thanks for checking out @ajam!"
Meanwhile, Ash-har Quraishi was named Chicago correspondent. Most recently Quraishi served as multimedia correspondent and content producer for WTTW, Chicago’s PBS station, reporting for Chicago Tonight and the PBS NewsHour. Last week he tweeted in advance of the launch, "We're putting the system to the test @ajam. Live." A heckler tried to incite him, tweeting, "What system is that? Installing Sharia Law in the USA?" Quraishi wasted no time in replying, "Nope. But hopefully we'll combat ignorance." Nicely fielded, Ash-har.
Finally, AJAM's Dallas correspondent position goes to Heidi Zhou-Castro. Zhou-Castro was most recently a YNN Austin evening and weekend news anchor. "Hello from #AlJazeeraAmerica's Dallas bureau!" she tweeted this week. Austin Monthly's Sarah Thurmond remarked on Twitter, "If you liked her on @YNNAustin, be sure to check out @HeidiZhouCastro on Al Jazeera America @ajam. Good luck, Heidi!"
But the AJAM hiring didn't stop there. Check in with us again on Monday, when we'll have even more news on this front!
