Congrats to Capital New York

Sep 09, 2013

There’s news on the journalism front this morning that POLITICO’s publisher bought Capital New York, written by Dylan Byers. Christine Delargy with Politico wrote, “Exciting @politico news, especially for this New Yorker!” Jay Rosen added, “Big news for journalism in New York City: Politico's owners invade Manhattan, acquire Capital New York. Will invest.” Daniel Victor from the New York Times was less excited though: “Some joke about Allbritton and a hyped new website. I don't even have the energy anymore.”

On the other side of the fence, Tom McGeveran and Josh Benson wrote a note to Capital readers about their upcoming expansion. Joe Pompeo at Capital New York said, “We'll be announcing a substantial number of additions to the Capital editorial staff in the coming weeks." Sam Jacobs with Time Magazine tweeted: “Congratulations to @jwbens and @tmcgev, two of the best.” Meredith Shiner from Roll Call said, “Whoa. Albritton bought Capital New York with the intention to make it a sister pub to the 'co.” Michael Amon at the Wall Street Journal added, “Seemingly great news for a great news organization.”
