AllThingsD and WSJ split up

Today's most widely shared news around the watercooler is, of course, the announcement that AllThingsD will part ways with Dow Jones. "Now that @waltmossberg and @karaswisher have split from Dow Jones the Q. is where the @allthingsd brand truly lives," wondered journalist Jay Rosen. Technology reporter Amir Efrati had a slightly different response: "About time."

But in a missive titled, "How Can You Miss Us if We Won’t Go Away?" AllThings D co-executive editors Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher assure us we can't get rid of them that easily and that, by the way, they're keeping the Steelcase hot-seat red chairs. "Will be interesting to see if they can use old site to promote new one," tweeted Casey Common with the Minneapolis StarTribune. Although after reading the article, ReutersMark Kolmar pointed out, "Not great timing to describe upcoming web news move as 'the next Next'." Okay, point taken.

For a bit of nostalgia, here's Mossberg's first tech column for the WSJ.
