Syria stalemate?

In a big get for The Guardian, an exclusive interview with Syria's deputy minister reveals the civil war there may have reached a stalemate, and its president Bashar al-Assad may call for a ceasefire. Of course, things are never that easy. "To put this in more honest language, Assad calls on the rebels to quit fighting," Washington Examiner's Justin Green commented. Wall Street Journal's Sam Dagher was equally unmoved: "Interesting that Kadri Jamil told me the same thing in an interview 20 days before Aug 21 chem attack." Tony Karon with Al Jazeera English concluded, "Demand that Assad quit hasnt been won on battlefield, unlikely to be won at talks."
