Bleacher Report gets serious with new hires

The Bleacher Report just shook up the sports world with the announcement of four new blockbuster hires. For one thing, they've poached Howard Beck from none other than The New York Times. Previously a sports writer for NYT, now Beck is B/R's national NBA writer. "Thanks so much to everyone for all the warm wishes. Really looking forward to the new adventure," Beck tweeted. For some, the news was sad: Ryan McCarthy of Reuters tweeted, "Crushed that I won't be reading @HowardBeckNYT 's concise slayings of the Knicks anymore. Was all we knicks fans had left." For others, it was exciting: Nick Underhill of tweeted,  "I guess Bleacher Report isn't messing around. Now they got @howardbecknyt?"
In no less exciting news, Kevin Ding also joins as B/R's Lakers beat writer. You'll know him from his work at The Orange County Register, where he's covered the Lakers since 1999. Ding tweeted, "Absolutely thrilled to tell you guys I've signed up to cover the Lakers and NBA in a brand-new, full-time gig for @BleacherReport." He later elaborated on why he's so thrilled by adding, "They're going to help me do my best work ever for more people than ever. Exhibit A: Sending me to China to cover Lakers preseason there." OC Register's Janis Carr reflected, "I might have to start reading Bleacher Report now that @KevinDing and @HowardBeckNYT are on board. Big hires, big losses."
Next, B/R has named Ethan Skolnick their Miami Heat writer, which makes perfect sense, given Skolnick's 17 years spent covering them for the Palm Beach PostMiami Herald, and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He teased on Twitter, "So @TurnerSportsPR announcing @HowardBeckNYT & me on the same day is akin to Cavs doing that after the 2003 draft w LeBron & Jason Kapono." Of course a Heat writer had to get that LeBron jab in, right? Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch observed, "Team Walter White brings on @HowardBeckNYT @KevinDing @EthanJSkolnick and @JaredZwerling. Tread lightly, Stein and Broussard..."
And yes, as you may have surmised from that last tweet, Jared Zwerling also joins the team as NBA analyst. Zwerling comes to Bleacher Report from, where he most recently covered the Knicks and the Nets. "I'm very excited to announce I'm now an NBA Analyst for Bleacher Report/Turner Sports, joining BR's standout NBA lineup for the new season," Zwerling shared. Chad Finn of the Boston Globe remarked, "Quite a roster of NBA writers the Bleacher Report is putting together with @HowardBeckNYT @KevinDing @EthanJSkolnick and @JaredZwerling." We agree. Cheers all around!
