Guardian hires new US editor

The Guardian has just named Alex Koppelman its US news editor. Most recently, Koppelman has served as politics editor at The New Yorker, where he's been since 2011. In his new role based in New York, Koppelman will help guide the Guardian's US news coverage, while engaging with Guardian teams globally. Koppelman retweeted Guardian America editor-in-chief Janine Gibson's announcement on the hiring, while adding, "A little news..."

Also based in New York, US assistant comment editor Heather Long greeted him, "Welcome to the team, @AlexKoppelman. Be warned that we'll be scrutinising how you drink your tea ..." Not missing a beat, Koppelman replied, "Thanks! But I'm pretty sure it's pronounced 'coffee.'" Looks like he'll hold his own there just fine.
