Newsweek continues hiring spree

Yesterday we brought you the story on several new adds by Newsweek, and today dawned with news of several more additions there.

Poaching from left and right, the all-digital publication has now hired Kira Bindrim of as managing editor. "Hooray, KiraSue! Good call, @jimpoco!" Glenn Coleman with Crain's New York tweeted in the direction of Newsweek's new editor-in-chief Jim Impoco. "Thx for the well wishes re: @Newsweek gig! I am way psyched, but will miss my amazing @Reuters colleagues greatly," Bindrim confessed via Twitter, adding, "Also the Times Sq. Elmos." (For background on that reference, click here.)

Newsweek also named as senior writer Katie Baker from Jezebel. Baker was most recently a staff writer at the Gawker-owned web site. "V sad to leave Jezebel but excited to join Newsweek later this month!" Baker tweeted. The Internet at-large seems to agree it was a smart move. "Newsweek is insanely lucky to have @katiejmbaker!" freelancer Nona Aronowitz commented. "I am so belatedly proud of @katiejmbaker," was the nod from ProPublica's Lois Beckett. Some reactions were nothing short of effusive: "KATIE HOORAY!" shout-tweeted Kevin Lincoln with Fox Sports.

Finally, the most recently confirmed hire is Abigail Jones from The Forward. "After a great year at the Forward, I'm thrilled to be joining @Newsweek as a senior editor!" Jones shared. "So excited to have @KiraBind & @AbigailDJ join the @Newsweek team in addition to the other grt hires @jimpoco has made!" tweeted Head of Product Alex Leo, herself a newly hired employee there and at IBT Media.

And we expect more news of hires by Impoco, as the all-digital publication hurries to reveal its new rebranding after tonight.
