Other country’s embarrassments

Oct 03, 2013

Patrick Wintour at the Guardian explains that a Mail on Sunday reporter gatecrashed the Miliband family memorial service. Jonathan Haynes there wrote, “Mail on Sunday 'sorry' for gatecrashing Miliband family memorial service, Lord Rothermere writing to Ed Miliband.” Patricia Sauthoff at Mediagazer spelled it out: “Hypothetical conversation: Editor: Go get quotes about us at that funeral. Me: UM. No.”

Indeed, that letter Ed Miliband wrote to Lord Rothermere is on Tumblr. Miliband tweeted: “My letter to Mail owner Lord Rothermere about how his papers do not reflect the character of our country.” Caitlin Moran at The Times wrote, “Daily Mail gate-crash private Miliband memorial. Their nervous breakdown now dwarfing Miley Cyrus.” Kevin Maguire from the Daily Mirror said, “When in a hole it's best to get out of the JCB cab, not gatecrash Miliband's uncle's memorial service.”
