New editor named for Star Tribune
After being second in command for six years, Rene Sanchez has been named Minneapolis Star Tribune's new top editor this week. This Friday he will officially take over as editor and senior vice president, in the wake of Nancy Barnes' recent departure for a gig as the Houston Chronicle's editor.
"So grateful to @nancycbarnes for hiring me," tweeted Vineeta Sawkar, who joined the publication earlier this year as a video host after anchoring at KSTP Channel 5. "Glad to see @StarTribune promote from within and give @StribSanchez the job!"
"Liking the hire of @StribSanchez as Strib editor," former journalist David Brauer remarked. "Paper overall is better now than when he started in mgmt. Decent guy to deal with, too."
Prior to joining the Star Tribune, Sanchez spent 17 years at the Washington Post. In 2004, he joined the Minneapolis publication as a writer, then worked his way up as Sunday editor, deputy managing editor, and, most recently, managing editor. Sounds as if the Star Tribune is in excellent hands.
