The Guardian’s Roy Greenslade tells us the Financial Times takes another big step towards a digital-only future. Lauren Indvik from Mashable explained,”The 'FT' to consolidate to a single global print edition next year as part of its ‘digital first’ strategy.” Andrea Kannapell at the New York Times called it, “What the transition from a print to an all-digital news organization might look like.”

For more details on the shift, here’s the Lionel Barber memo to staff on reshaping the newspaper for the digital age. Rachel Ensign at the Wall Street Journal said, “This @FT memo is serious food for thought for all of us print journo.” Subhajit Banerjee with the Guardian agreed, “Lionel Barber's memo to FT staff on the shift away from print is a great read.” Christopher Clarey at the New York Times tweeted this quote from the memo: "1970s-style newspaper publishing process, making incremental changes to multiple editions through the night, is dead.” Sophie Knight from Reuters added, “The FT has 100,000 more digital subscriptions than print.. and changes mean staff there will have to get up earlier.”

For the requisite media change think piece, Katharine Viner from The Guardian delivered The rise of the reader: journalism in the age of the open web. Paul Owen there said, “Really great piece by Katharine Viner on the future, and present, of journalism.” Colleague Dan Gillmor suggested: “Every journalist should read @KathViner's [piece].” Jay Rosen wrote, “If you want to understand the Guardian's approach to digital first journalism,@KathViner pulls it all together here.” Patrick Tolbert at WDTN-TV Dayton tweeted this quote from the story: "He believed that digital is just a technological development; just a new kind of word processing.”

And at Capital New York, Peter Sterne tells the story of A young woman 'languishing' at CBS who gets a quick career assist from Mika Brzezinski. Kira Goldenberg with the Columbia Journalism Review wrote, “A good story by @petersterne on the @columbiajourn event I attended last night with@morningmika and @joenbc.” Sara Austin from Cosmopolitan tweeted: “Nice work by our @Cosmopolitan career coach @morningmika!” Reid Pillifant at Capital New York added this quote from the piece: “'I can tell she’s going to be a star.
