Photo of the year?

A thing happened in sports last night and a cool picture came out of it and everyone on Twitter really liked it. That’s our take on the cover page of Boston Globe’s Sports section anyway. Here are some others:

  • Kyle Tucker, Courier-Journal: “Boston Globe sports page today. Perfect.”
  • Thomas Gounley, Springfield News-Leader: “Liked the photo, but the @BGlobeSports headline really makes it.”
  • Matthew Bell, Public Radio International: “Torii Hunter damn near caught that ball and put the #RedSox down 2-0. Instead, we've got this.”
  • Leigh Munsil, Politico: “Is that guy who fell over the fence O.K.?”
  • Sam Jacobs, Time Magazine: “‘Boston's finest’ bumping up against Dan Shaughnessy's column.”
  • Jay Busbee, Yahoo! News: “Best part: someone had left their seat.”
  • Neil Best, Newsday: “Best sports picture of 2013.”
  • Don Van Natta, ESPN: “By two-time Pulitzer winner Stan Grossfeld.”
  • Joe Goodman Jr.: “But newspapers don't need professional photojournalists anymore. No...just give reporters iPhones.”

For one more photo of Bullpen officer Steve Horgan with John Henry, we have @ESPNJoeyMac to thank. Bruce Arthur at the National Post said, “Guy's gonna have to raise his arms 100 times a day forever.” Chris Jones at Esquire tweeted: “And Jonny Gomes has his Halloween costume.” Matt Norlander at CBS Sports announced: “Attn: Internet, much more Saul Berenson than Walter White.”
