Journo trades Cairo for Hollywood

Los Angeles Times Cairo bureau chief Jeffrey Fleishman is flying home to assume a new role ... in Hollywood.

Or as the LAT's Communications twitter account put it, "@JeffreyLAT has a new beat: he's moving from the Land of the Pharaohs to the Town of Tinsel. Welcome Jeff to Hollywood!"

That's right; after 11 years spent abroad for the Times, the last six of which he spent in Egypt, Fleishman joins the arts and entertainment department as a senior reporter. His new beat will include film, TV and the arts.

"The LAT's Cairo guy, @JeffreyLAT, is moving to Hollywood.  … But is the LA Times keeping a guy in Cairo? Unclear," pointed out Chris Krewson at the Hollywood Reporter. Good question.

In reply, an LA reader wryly observed, "The Cairo experience may help in Hollywood."
