Los Angeles Times promotes two

Big changes in store for film editor Julie Makinen at The Los Angeles Times: she's just been named the paper's Beijing correspondent.

"Big news today for me: After 3 years with the fab movie team at LA Times, I'm taking up a new post at paper as Beijing-based correspondent," she announced on Twitter.

In the process, colleague and calendar editor Rich Nordwind has also been promoted--to her newly vacated position.

"Congrats and best wishes to the very able @rnordwind, who is taking over as LA Times film editor," Makinen also tweeted. "Publicists, you are now free to pounce!"

"Back to the future," Nordwind tweeted. "[I]'m delighted and proud to be @latimes movie editor again -- and in such a good year for movies."

"Shout-out to my new film editor @rnordwind and major props to @JulieMakLAT, a great captain to our team since 2010," responded LAT entertainment writer Chris Lee, appropriately adding the Chinese characters 普通话好运 (which roughly translates to "Good Luck"). We couldn't have expressed it any better!
