In recent breaking news, a suspect is dead after a New Jersey mall shooting late last night. Although no patrons or mall employees were harmed, the suspect--identified as 20-year-old Richard Shoop, according to this New York Times article--took his own life, shortly after entering the Garden State Plaza in Paramus around 9:20 p.m. and shooting both at security cameras and up at the air.
It was the latest in a string of tragedies this year, which had Clare O'Connor at Forbes responding, "What the actual f***? More?" We're with you on that, Clare. And so was Alana Horowitz at the Huffington Post: "Would be great if we could go a week without a shooting, America."
There were things to be grateful for, though, as freelance journalist Torey Van Oot demonstrated via this quote: "'This is the nightmare scenario, but it didn't become a nightmare' Paramus top cop on police response to mall gunman." Also, CNBC's Ryan Ruggiero had something to feel fortunate about: "Thankfully just left this place 30 mins ago!"
