Today we introduce to you Tuesday's featured journalist: Michael Janairo, the Arts and Entertainment editor at the Times Union in Albany, NY. With the publication since 1999, Janairo has worked as the copy desk chief for features as well as for the news side copy desk.
He's not just a journo, though--he writes fiction, too, as well as poetry. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Janairo earned his MFA in creative writing from the University of Pittsburgh. In fact, in addition to his regular contributions to the Times Union, his fiction and nonfiction has been published in such literary magazines as the Abiko Quarterly, Maganda Magazine, Walang Hiya and Kartika Review. Moreover, Janairo has also been a fellow at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, which is an artist colony in rural Amherst County, Va.
We're certain you'll find evidence of his uniquely developed writing style, too, throughout his portfolio. After all, every journalist is exactly just that, at his or her core: a writer.
