Today we're happy to feature a freelance journalist, one Genetta Adams who specializes in the arts and entertainment beats in New York City (where we know there's plenty of material for that type of coverage)! Adams describes herself as an editor and writer for-hire with "an unwavering devotion to the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Barcelona FC and the LA Lakers." Oh, and rumor has it she will "edit for coffee."
... We're pretty sure that's a joke, but we've all felt that way at least once, right?
Adams got her start in journalism, however, working as an editorial copy clerk and then a copy editor at her hometown paper in Stockton, Ca. Her reasons for joining the industry were simple and straightforward: "I thought it was cool to have a job that paid me to get and read information and then share that information with other people." Since then, she has added quite an arsenal of skills to her daily journalistic routine: in addition to all the various social media, Evernote, Instapaper, Microsoft Office for Mac, and Final Cut, as well as her Macbook Pro, iPhone, and iPad.
Her favorite fictional journalist? Jane Craig (Holly Hunter in Broadcast News), a classic choice. As for what it means to be a journalist, "the press is one of the few professions protected by the Constitution. The founding fathers got it." A truly quote-worthy response.
