Times' Vega gets race, ethnicity beat

The New York Times just tapped staff reporter Tanzina Vega to join its national desk to cover a new beat: race and ethnicity.

Vega made the announcement on Twitter (where else?).

"Excited to announce my new beat here at @nytimes," she tweeted. "I will be moving to the national desk to cover #race and #ethnicity in the U.S."

NYT Phoenix bureau chief Fernanda Santos congratulated her, "Yay @tanzinavega, joining @NYTNational to write about the nation's diversity and its tension points. Bienvenida!"

"Congratulations @tanzinavega on your new gig exploring race relations in our rapidly shifting country," harmonized colleague Daniel E. Slotnik.

"Great new beat for @nytimes," agreed Dan Saltzstein (also at the Times), who then continued, "correspondent covering diversity and its tension points -- and great person to do it, @tanzinavega. Kudos."
