OCR welcomes politics reporter

The Orange Country Register has filled its recently vacated position of state government reporter, placing Laura Olson in charge of covering California government and politics from the publication's Sacramento bureau.

"Excited to join the @OCRegister today. I'll be continuing to cover state government and politics from Sacramento!" Olson recently tweeted, later adding, "Thanks for all the kind words yesterday. And thanks to my new @OCRegister colleagues, who were very welcoming!"

Previously fulfilling the same role at the Associated Press Sacramento bureau, Olson now takes over for Brian Joseph, who left the Register in August for UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, to become a Fellow in the Investigative Reporting Program.

"Happy birthday to @lauraolson - AND happy first day on the job at the @ocregister," tweeted Scott Detrow, the Sacramento Bureau Chief for The California Report.

A new job is one of the best kinds of birthday presents, we'd say. Congratulations!
