Featured journalist: Martha Kang

Jan 12, 2014

Today's honor of featured journalist goes to Martha Kang, Online Managing Editor with KPLU Public Radio! Kang is a web journalist, but also a lover of books, and a midnight cook.

Prior to joining KPLU in March 2013, she spent six years on the digital team of KOMO News, reporting and producing stories for the station's website, and leading the station's social media efforts. Kang has also worked as a news writer at Northwest Cable News, and as a freelancer at WLS-TV in Chicago.

In the spring of 2013, Kang was awarded the Kiplinger Fellowship by Ohio State University's Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism. She once won "The Best Little Mustache That Could!" Award after entering a mustache-a-thon as a creatively-disguised rogue participant named "Scoop Jones."

Kang typically covers topics that fall under breaking news, but it's her human interest stories you definitely need to read. Be sure to check out her Muck Rack portfolio, which is full of moving narratives under such headlines as "Bus driver finds beauty in even the toughest of routes" and "Paintings provide window into the world of life with Alzheimer's."

Remember: If you also want to be featured here, you should 1) set up your own journalist portfolio 2) get verified and 3) let us know by emailing Kirsten.
