NYT Mag names new correspondent

Since Matt Bai left in November to write a column for Yahoo NewsThe New York Times Magazine has had a spot to fill. Now it appears they've done so: Jim Rutenberg now joins the magazine as chief political correspondent. Previously the national political correspondent with The New York Times, Rutenberg is already comfortable covering investigative news and should fit in well at their Sunday magazine supplement.

"Nice work @jimrutenberg. Well deserved for you and great for @NYTmag," NYT's Elisabeth Goodridge tweeted.

Colleague Mark Leibovich was even more ebullient on the matter: "Can't say enough about @jimrutenberg and how awesome he'll be at the @NYTMag. Great day for America!!"

Bai also reached out to support his replacement. "Congrats @jimrutenberg, who will be awesome."

Rutenberg replied, "thanks Matt -- big shoes to try to fill."
