FT names global media editor

The Financial Times just appointed Matthew Garrahan as global media editor. Previously the FT’s Los Angeles correspondent, Garrahan is now charged with overseeing coverage of media, marketing and entertainment.

"Thanks for the kind messages, all. It will be tough to fill @edgecliffe's size 12s but I'm looking forward to it," Garrahan tweeted of his successor.

The promotion also means that he'll be leaving sunny LA for snowy New York very soon.

"You'll need more than long-johns!" West Coast editor Richard Waters warned him.
