AP makes pair of hires

Congratulations to Steve McMillan and Cathy Bussewitz, whom The Associated Press has just welcomed into the fold.  McMillan joins as news editor for Virginia and West Virginia. while Bussewitz will be the AP's government and politics reporter in Hawaii.

Most recently with The Denver Post for 16 years as a writer and editor, McMillan will now be based in Richmond, overseeing reporters in both Virginia and West Virginia.

"Thrilled to be joining @AP as news editor for #Va and #WVa. Start date: Feb. 24," McMillan divulged.

"Welcome to the neighborhood where this a.m. it is 35 degrees colder than Denver! Congratulations!" teased Style Weekly's Tina Griego.

Meanwhile, Bussewitz rejoins the AP from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, where she has made a name for herself as a reporter skilled in multimedia and data reporting; it represents a return for Bussewitz, who previously covered state government for the AP in two states, Nevada and California, in 2009 and 2010.

"Congrats to @cbussewitz! AP hires Cathy Bussewitz as government, politics reporter for Hawaii statehouse," AP's Judy Lin tweeted from California.

Bussewitz replied, "Thanks @JudyLinAP! Excited to work with you again."
