Before the big game had ever started on Sunday, there was already a sadness sweeping the country at news that actor Philip Seymour Hoffman had died.

Pervaiz Shallwani broke the news in the Wall Street Journal, writing Award-winning Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment, Law-Enforcement Official Said. Matt Murray at Dow Jones Newswires tweeted: “Mr. Hoffman [was] 'a really sweet dad. He seemed to have a really great relationship with his kids.’” Virginia Heffernan at Yahoo! News wasn’t so sure about this bit of news though: “Not really ‘only modest rewrites will be needed to accommodate his absence in a few remaining scenes.’”

The New York Post quickly followed up with Philip Seymour Hoffman found dead in his apartment. Gina Silva at Fox LA tweeted: “RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman.” Lauren Tara LaCapra at Reuters pointed out, “This is why heroin can't have nice things.”

There’s also David Goodman’s piece in the New York Times: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Actor, Dies at 46. Lauren Young at Reuters admitted, “I woke up thinking about Philip Seymour Hoffman, Actor of Depth.” Mark Holan from the Tampa Bay Business Journal added, “I'm not a TMZ guy, so was shocked to c Philip Seymour Hoffman reportedly died w/a spike in his arm. Sad. Great actor.”

There are many obits (some good, some not) running around the internet right now but we recommend this remembrance from Tom Junot in Esquire.
