Microsoft names new CEO

One of today's top stories is the news that Microsoft's board has named Satya Nadella as CEO, news that was broken in part via tweet and twitpic. Bill Gates is also stepping down as Chairman.

It was received with a mixed bag, at least where stocks were concerned: Wall Street Journal's Dan Gallagher pointed out, "Microsoft shares dip as Satya Nadella gets CEO gig. Still up about 12% from when Ballmer announced retirement." Still, as SEC reporter Andrew Ackerman observed, "Microsoft unlikely to break from the company's 'pattern as a fast follower, rather than a trend setter.'"

To get to know the new CEO better, here's a YouTube video of his very first interview as the head of Microsoft, filmed on their Redmond, Washington campus. "I challenge all reporters to find me a more epic walk and talk interview than the one MSFT just delivered," Rich DeMuro joked at KTLA.

For additional background, here's his very first email to employees. So far, so good, the consensus seems to be. The New Yorker's Nicholas Thompson admitted, "Impressed by sincerity in MSFT's new CEO's letter, particularly the 'who am I? Why am i here?'"
