In some mostly frightening news, the BBC reports that an Ethiopian plane was diverted to Geneva. Emmanuel Igunza there said, “Ethiopian Airlines co-pilot hijacks plane to seek Geneva asylum.” Benjamin Shingler with Canadian Press said, “Oy, took pretty much this same route last week.”

But for a bit of heartwarming news, Hala Gorani tweeted a photo showing little Marwan, a boy who was found in in Jordan desert with his possessions in a plastic bag and was later reunited with his family.

And from London, Danny Hakim writes about Saving an Endangered British Species: The Pub in the New York Times. Freelancer Sabrina Buckwalter said, “The pub as an ‘asset of community value.’ How legislation might protect the UK endangered species.” Alice Ross from the Financial Times added, “Londoners warn of the dire consequences of shutting down pubs: ‘We're all going to wander the streets like zombies.’”
