Standing in solidarity

Feb 27, 2014

Newsrooms all over the world came to a standstill today, as Al Jazeera's called for a Global Day of Action and demanded the release of four of its journalists. These journalists have been imprisoned in Egypt for several months: Peter Greste, Mohammed Fahmy, Baher Mohamed and Abdullah Al Shamy. At Al Jazeera English, presenter Kamahl Santamaria tweeted proudly, "Seriously, how awesome is this... AJE Doha grinds to a halt, in solidarity with our jailed colleagues." Meanwhile, digital director Rami Khater shared a stunning graphic, remarking, "A picture says a thousand word and this one says 'viral' 1000x." HuffPost Live's Ahmed Shihab-Eldin retweeted that, and added, "JOURNALISM IS NOT TERRORISM."
